The word "intimidated" stands out for me, I suppose because it's an emotion I have felt. Also though, the speaker has themself quite vulnerable. It's hard to confess something like intimidation 1) because it's actually pretty embarassing, quite often; 2) if someone knows you are intimidated it colors, sad to say, often, how they treat you or ignore you. ...such that, sometimes you have to be polarizing with people just to let them know you have more respect for yourself than to feel good assioating with them in their blatant condescension.
