A year without love and sex… after fifteen seemingly beautiful, rich, sacred years which he’d always been so grateful for because, well… hadn’t the love and sex been so divine? But like that line from that Of Montreal song “The Past Is A Grotesque Animal” which… ironically… they listened to together at a time when they were falling in love with each other… the line goes…

“the past is a grotesque animal/ And in its eyes you see/ How completely wrong you can be/ How completely wrong you can be” (shout out to the singer and lyricist of the song, Kevin Barnes!)

…The complexity of “falling in love” and how…how… we may indeed “fall in love”… well… let’s hold up a minute!

What do I mean by “falling in love” or to “fall in love?” The Oxford English Dictionary says “to fall in love with” is “to become passionately attached to, dote on.” The Oxford English Dictionary says that to “dote on” or “upon somebody” is “to feel and show great love for somebody, ignoring their faults.” As for the etymology of “love” — that thing we can “fall in”… fall into… the Online Etymology Dictionary says “feeling of love; romantic sexual attraction; affection; friendliness; the love of God; Love as an abstraction or personification.” And briefly, by “romantic,” citing the same source, “characteristic of an ideal love affair.”
